This is one of the most basic landing page designs. It follows the rule of thirds.
In the rule of thirds design, all you have to do is divide the space that you're working with into three equal areas. With the addition of one of the thirds will contain most likely text while the two other thirds, you will join together and add one photo.
It's not necessarily a rule that the text should be placed in the 1/3 section. Depending on the imagery you're working with and the amount of information that you need to display via text, you may very well use the 1/3 for your photo imagery and the other 2/3 for your text information.
Lastly, the background color of the 1/3 was picked with a color picker using areas from the image on the right. Notice how both sections have a background color that is Monochromatic. Monochromatic just means they are different shades of the same color.
